Let the Witch-Hunts Begin!!
Written by Wiggy on August 2, 2010 – 5:05 pm -Ok, I’m about to say something that’s gonna get a bunch of people all up in arms. Whatever…I don’t care.
You know how most people in the strength & conditioning industry just hate & loathe bodybuilding?
Well, they’re mostly idiots. Not to mention wrong. In fact, bodybuilding doesn’t suck nearly as bad as many of the ‘gurus’ out there try to tell you it does.
Oh yeah…that’s gonna make some people take notice. I bet busy internet bloggers and forum posters are already talking smack about me. Meh…who cares.
Now, do I approve of the spectacle that professional bodybuilding has become – esp in the past decade?
HELL NO.
But in and of itself, there is *nothing* wrong with bodybuilding, nor is there anything wrong with wanting to do some bodybuilding oriented training. Hell, at some point or another, about everybody wants to use a good set of muscle building programs to put some size on.
And that’s cool.
The problem comes in when:
1 – you care *only* about what you look like, thereby leaving all performance by the wayside (which is stupid – what’s the point? The old saying “Looks like Tarzan, Plays like Jane” comes to mind…)
2 – you go completely overboard with your workouts. I don’t care what you read in the latest magazine, you don’t need these massively long, split-bodypart training programs that take 2-3 hours to do.
What’s that? It worked for Arnold, Louie, Franco, and the rest. Well…that’s true.
Quick newsflash though, bub – you ain’t Arnold, Louie, or Franco. (Hate to have to tell you that.)
Instead, why don’t you use a basic program centered around sound principles designed to increase strength and power. Add in work for speed and explosiveness. Round it all out with assistance work that’s designed to not only balance everything out, but put on some extra muscle mass, too.
Then, when you’re done, toss in some intense conditioning for good measure. Not too much…but…you know…enough to keep you in shape.
Or in other words…just use “Body Armor”.
