When it comes to building muscle, most folks that they have one of two choices:
1 – lift heavy weights (with lower reps)
2 – use higher reps (with lighter weights)
In fact, if you take a look at many pro bodybuilders, what do they do – a combination of both…heavy weights *and* high reps.
Yeah, I know – all the pros are juiced to the gills. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still learn something from their training. (Besides, all the drugs in the world ain’t gonna do a damn thing for you if you don’t work your ass off in the gym.)
See, you need to do both if you wanna get big and put on some muscular size – lift heavy and do enough volume to stimulate muscle growth.
But, you need to find just that right ‘balance’ between both…and more.
Your muscle building workouts need have you:
–lift heavy…but not so heavy that you blast your nervous system into overtraining or you limit the reps (either per set or in overall volume…just one or two heavy sets at the end of a pyramid ain’t enough)
–use enough reps…but not so many that you end up using puny weights, just flushing the muscles with blood, or run the risk of long-term damage to your joints from doing too many reps
Because being big and muscular is cool, and strong is awesome, but if you’re slow, then I don’t care what activity or sport you’re doing…
no speed = no success
So how do you lift heavy, use enough volume to stimulate muscle growth, AND lift with enough bar speed to be fast and explosive?
See, Body Armor utilizes a pretty cool set, rep, and percentage scheme I arranged that gives you a real “best of all worlds” approach to those 3 characteristics, and is the best combination of all three.
(And you don’t have to do all your main exercises 2-3x/week or do them differently – one set/rep scheme does it all for you.)

Ok gang – by now y’all probably know that I don’t mind giving anyone and everyone a good, swift kick in the ass every now and then to help you keep your minds right. (I want the same thing for myself.)
Well, here’s your first one for 2011. And to be honest, it got its start in the most unlikeliest of places.
Sometime last week, I ended up watching a free video this big-name internet marketer put out. To tell the truth, I don’t even remember how I ended up watching it…link in an email, most likely. Either way, I ended up watching this video, and the guy had some pretty cool stuff to say regarding marketing, and how it’s changing in the current economic landscape.
Well, a couple days later, this dude sends out a newsletter saying that he’s gonna hold a free webinar later in the week. In this webinar, he’s gonna take a few of the broad points he talked about in the first video, and cover them in more detail. Seeing as how I’m a fan of this guy’s work, the webinar was free, and even if there was some sorta pitch at the end (there usually is for these kinda things), the guy usually has some really good info in his free stuff that you can still put to work, I signed up.
(Quick side note – for those that might not know, a ‘webinar’ is basically just a video presentation that’s done live…a seminar done online. Depending on how it’s setup, there can be direct interaction with the presenter, possibly other participants, and a whole bunch of other stuff. They can be pretty cool.)
Now before we go any further, it begs mentioning that the guy giving this webinar is probably one of the top 3 internet marketers in the world. I mean this dude is good, and he’s a huge name in the industry. To compare it to boxing, it’d be like talking shop with Emanuel Steward or Freddie Roach. This guy is that good.
The day for the webinar ends up rolling around, and the guy shoots out a link to where you can access it. At the right time I click on the link, only to get this massive error message.
I try it again. No luck. Again. Still no luck. I wait a few minutes, and try again – still an error.
I was really looking forward to hearing what this guy had to say, but wasn’t too worried, as I knew that there would probably be a replay available. (It’s usually standard practice for these kinda things to send out a link to watch a replay or even download your own copy of the video for free after it’s over.)
I gotta say that I was a bit surprised that the thing malfunctioned like it did, but hey, this is the interwebz we’re talking about, here. Interwebz + tech + 3rd party service = a SNAFU every now and again…no matter who you are.
(If nothing else, it was kinda funny to see this happen to such a big-name guy…shows he’s just as human as the rest of us…no matter how much money he makes.)
To see if anybody else is having the same trouble I am, I shoot a few emails to some buddies of mine that I think might be watching it, and hit up a couple marketing forums to see if anybody is talking about it.
HOLY SHIT – everybody is going ape shit about how this guy’s webinar SNAFU’ed. I mean, there are literally people that are pissed off and cussing this guy because the whole thing screwed up.
Mind you…these aren’t PAYING customers. These are people that are bitching about not getting something – like an hour or more of this guy’s time and knowledge – FOR FREE.
A few hours pass, as the big-name internet marketer sounds out another email, profusely apologizing for the whole mixup, that there were some kinda issues (I didn’t pay attention to what they were) and that everything was fixed. He even included a link to where the webinar was now working.
So I clicked on the link…another error message.
Uh oh…I knew the keyboard warriors were gonna be going nuts now. I checked a couple forums…and I was right.
Reading these people bitch and complain about not getting their free info was almost laughable…I couldn’t help but be reminded of Louis CK’s interview on Conan…
(Watch the whole thing – it’s hilarious – but the main line is at about the 2:20 mark or so…)
“Like how quickly the world owes him something he knew existed only 10 seconds ago.”
That was the thing I couldn’t get over – here this guy was, offering top-notch FREE info, the tech SNAFU’s itself, and all of a sudden all these wannabe cool people are pissed off because they’re now out something or inconvenienced.
The question I wanted ask all these people was simple – “Y’all have been bitching and moaning all day about this FREE video not getting delivered…in that time, what else have you done? Have you done ANYTHING to further your business or execute your plans? Or have you hung around internet forums all day complaining instead?”
THAT is the point I want to get across to y’all.
Too many people want the world to hand them everything on a silver platter, and when it doesn’t, they get pissed off…almost as if they’re “owed” something. What a load of bullshit.
Listen up people – you might not wanna hear this (and don’t worry – I’m talking to myself just as much as I am you), but I’m gonna tell you anyway…
If you haven’t attained any of your goals yet, the problem isn’t that guy, or that program, or your gym, or whatever – the problem is probably you. Not strong enough? Chances are you haven’t lifted heavy enough. Not in good enough shape? Chances are you haven’t worked hard enough. Still carrying too much extra “fluff” around the waist and not lean yet? Chances are you’re still eating too much crap. Haven’t accomplished the goals you set for yourself this time last year? Chances are you haven’t picked one and stuck with it long enough to actually accomplish something.
I don’t care what industry, niche, business, game, sport, or anything else you’re talking about – the people that accomplish the most are the ones that take the most action. Talk less, think less, ‘plan’ less – do more. Hell…in some cases…do ANYTHING.
Quit looking for somebody else to achieve your goals for you and hand them to you all wrapped up in a pretty red bow. Instead, be willing to get out there and get your hands dirty, and make the shit happen yourself.
You’ll find not only do you get more done, but you’ll feel a lot better about it, too.
